Mindset is a double-edged sword. It can work completely for you or it can work completely against you. Supposedly, I am not a neuroscientist or anything like that, but from what I read and I understand, there are two kinds of mindsets and this is going to make all the sense to you. There is a fixed mindset and a flexible mindset. Now, what is a fixed mindset? You have your mind made up. It looks like what this is where I'm from and this is how we act where I'm from. This is how we talk. This is how we think. This is who we are. This is who I am and you believe that it is fixed - You believe that you can't run any faster, you can't jump any higher. You can't learn anything new because you already are who you already are. And that's a fixed mindset.
There's a flexible mindset or a growth mindset. Now, with the growth mindset, this is who people believe that they are a lot of times, but a lot of times, they're not. What is a growth mindset? They are pretty much the opposite of what I said - they believe that they can always change, that they can always grow, that things can be different. I'm from somewhere else, but I can move here and I can adapt. A growth mindset is an adaptable mindset. A growth mindset is a mindset that receives and believes that you can change. So you made me think, Okay, these are these mindsets, right? What you want me to do? Like, this is who I am or yeah, I'm good. I'm growth like, that's me. I'm willing to change, I'm willing to be different. I want to be different so when it comes to mindset and I'm just going to talk about three. I can talk about mindset just like how I could talk about gratitude. I could talk about mindset for months because there's so much but the first thing that we'll talk about is your ability to notice and embrace your weaknesses, but don't just notice and embrace your weaknesses, notice and embrace your strengths. What you know, what your weaknesses are and what your strengths are, then you would know and you would get an opportunity to fit into your strengths. Why would you keep filling up that weakness bucket when you're already strong, you're already good at communicating with people. You're already good at having really good ideas. You're already good at working with your hands. You're already good at teaching. You're already good at that so why would you go focus on something that you're not good at? Know what your weaknesses are, don't be crazy, but also work on what your strengths are and focus on those. And then you get someone to help you where you're weak. You need to make the most use of what you have going here.
The next thing is to be able to notice opportunities. And I said it like that because sometimes it looks like, Oh, this is terrible. I don't know how to do this. This doesn't work. Why doesn't these pants have a zipper right here or why don't they teach it like this? Or why does the online education system work like this? So when you notice those deficiencies in a product, in a system, in a teaching and in an education, in a business, when you notice those flaws, those are opportunities for you to come in and help them fix them and get paid but you have to be able to have that mindset - to recognize that a challenge is an opportunity.
The brain is so malleable, so flexible, so agile that the brain can change. The brain is not fixed so if you want to change, you want to grow. It's like a muscle, right? If you want to change, you want to grow, then you will put forth the effort and having a brain that's open to change, that's open to growth, that's open to seeing the positive, seeing the opportunities and situations and you have that already right now and you already have it or you wouldn't be considering a change of being an entrepreneur or having your own side hustle or writing a blog or writing a book or changing your job or whatever that little thought is in the back of your mind that you haven't been nurturing, but you get an opportunity to nurture that change. You get an opportunity to be adaptable, adapt to something that you want to do, someone you want to be, and you get to decide that.
Acknowledge strengths, acknowledge your weaknesses, but work toward your strengths. Continue to make those strengths more strong because why would you work on something that's weak and is already behind? Don't mess around with that. Be able to acknowledge the opportunities in conflict, be able to notice the opportunities when something isn't right. Now, there are people and businesses and products that are calling out for help. So you get an opportunity to step in and help them and the only reason why you know that there's a shortage there or something needs to be fixed there is because of the information and the knowledge and the skills that you already have. Everything you are is already inside of you. Well, sometimes you just need to spend some time and acknowledge that. Sometimes we can't see our superpowers because they're already ours. We already do it. And last but not least, the mind is very agile, is very flexible. It can grow, you can learn more, you can run faster, you can jump higher. You can do anything you want to do if you want to do it. Now, of course, if you don't want to do it, that makes it hard, but part of it is really wanting to and deciding if that's what you want to do.
